Design an app to help users find current exchange rates between currencies and use this information to quickly and easily exchange currencies. Travelers need immediate access to accurate rates and seamless conversion tools while on the go, along with relevant market insights, travel tips, and contextual information to make informed financial decisions.

Create a comprehensive mobile application that provides real-time exchange rates, instant currency conversion, market tracking, and travel tips.
To understand why exactly users were struggling, I decided to look at ratings, reviews, and public forums about currency exchange apps that are currently on the market to see what people had to say.
I then identified 3 main pain points

Usability Study and Feedback:
Fragmented
User Experience
Apps often split functionality between separate applications requiring switching between different sections and apps. Constantly jumping between apps/sections breaks the user's mental flow and decision-making process
Users can't smoothly move from checking rates to monitoring trends to reading related news, and rate changes were shown without immediate access to relevant market news or analysis.
No integration with ATM finding or local banking information when traveling and apps don't provide practical tips, guides, or advice for traveling in countries with given exchange rates.

Create a streamlined mobile application that provides instant access to current exchange rates with an intuitive, user-friendly interface designed for quick currency conversions and past exchange rate trends with helpful information for global travelers.
I started with some Lo-Fi Wireframes, got some feedback using a usability study, and then tweaked my initial Lo-Fi Wireframes while creating the ideal Hi-Fi mockups.

I conducted a short usability study to get some feedback on the initial Lo-Fi prototype I made. I asked the participants to complete the basic tasks the app is designed for, finding an exchange rate and doing a currency conversion. Since this was a Lo-Fi prototype, I just observed whether they were able to figure out how to complete these tasks, rather than if they completed them correctly.

Usability Study and Feedback:
Some Feedback I recieved included:
"I wish the exchange rates conversion and currency conversion were in the same place just in case I only needed to use one of them"
"It would be helpful if I could choose which countrys exchange rate trends to view"
"I think being able to see my past conversions would make it easier so I won't have to type them again"

Usability Study/Feedback:
This project was my first real step into UI/UX. I learned a lot from researching, wireframing, prototyping, designing, iterating and more. Moving forward, I want to focus on strengthening my skills in areas like user research methodologies and design systems to create more cohesive experiences. I'm also committed to staying curious and regularly challenging my design decisions, knowing that each project will teach me something new about crafting meaningful user experiences.

There are still a few more things that can make this app even more helpful for users. One thing would be connecting with a platform that can provide current and past exchange rate trends to implement in the exchange rate trends section. This way, users will not have to open an external link to an unconnected site to get this information. Also implementing a full dropdown with every currency for the exchange rate, currency conversion, and rate trends can further improve this experience and is something I would love to implement.
